Caption: You’ve waited patiently, now it’s time to sparkle your way.
So, you’ve had your ears pierced - yay! 🎉 That little sparkle is finally yours, and you’ve waited patiently through the healing stage. But now comes the part that everyone’s a little nervous about changing your earrings for the first time.
Whether you’re switching to chunky gold hoops, dreamy huggies, or stacking up with cuffs, we’re here to hold your hand through every step. 🫶
🧼 Step 1: Make Sure Your Piercing Has Fully Healed
Look out for swelling, redness, and irritation - if they’re gone, you’re good to go.
Before you touch that jewellery, your piercing needs to be fully healed, usually 6–8 weeks for earlobes and up to 12 weeks for cartilage. Signs it’s ready:
- No redness or swelling
- No discharge or pain
- The earring turns easily
Still unsure? Wait a little longer - better safe than sorry.
🧽 Step 2: Wash Your Hands and Disinfect Everything
Set up a clean space with everything you need.
Clean hands = happy ears. Wash your hands with warm water and antibacterial soap. Use a saline solution or piercing spray to clean the area around the earring before touching it.
Pro tip: Lay your tools (new earrings, cotton pads, mirror) on a clean towel for easy access.
💫 Step 3: Gently Remove Your Starter Stud
Hold the front, slide off the back gently - no rushing.
Your starter earrings might feel a bit snug, that’s normal. Hold the front of the stud and gently unscrew or slide off the back. If it’s crusty or stiff, clean it again and take your time.
⚠️ Don’t yank - you don’t want to irritate the new piercing.
✨ Step 4: Insert Your New Earrings
Light, hypoallergenic earrings are best for your first swap.
Now the fun part! Choose a lightweight, hypoallergenic pair (we recommend our gold-plated stainless steel studs). Hold the new earring by the post, gently push it through the hole, and secure the back.
If you feel resistance, don’t force it — try a thinner post or give your piercing more time to heal.
💡 Aftercare Tips
Continue aftercare for a few days after swapping your earrings.
- Even though your piercing has healed, it still needs a little TLC:
- Clean daily for a few days after the change
- Avoid sleeping on the new earrings
- Choose waterproof, tarnish-free metals (like ours 😉)
